Return from Wallpapered Idyll

I am back, having survived the worst that the land of wallpaper and DQ's could throw at me. In a town that I failed to find a single real sit down restaurant that did not have the word Bar in the name, I was able to find 5 DQ Grill and Chills.  Argh - I really am back I have to go get my daughter out of the ditch. So Good Morning.

Away from the Fabric of my Reality

Hello from Indiana!  New Albany, Indiana to be precise. Never heard of New Albany, Indiana, there is probably a good reason for it but do not get me wrong it is a nice quiet town on the Ohio River, the emphasis is on quiet.

I am here because my wife had to come here to train someone for her job. I came along because of the drive and the weather. This means I have escaped the walls of fabric for a few days. I have traded them in for the wallpapered walls of a Hampton Inn, not a lot of difference sitting here at the computer.  I will drop a line once I am more settled but first I have to run across the street to the Waffle House to get some real coffee.

Cheers

Pete

Introduction

Welcome to my cubicle, my fabric walled domicile. I am Pete Thiel and these entries are my random thoughts from work.

Over the many years I have been in IT, either as an employee or a consultant I have almost always had to work in a cubicle, some nice, some less than nice, but all with fabric covered walls. Sitting in these cubicles has led me to try and determine why they ever were developed and I have come to a few conclusions:

It is almost impossible to stare blankly at a fabric covered expanse and daydream - I could stare at a nice latex painted wall and envision all sorts of interesting things that I am not getting paid for, but fabric seems to just soak my dreams and visions in and will not reflect them back for my personal viewing pleasure.

You cannot sketch or doodle on the fabric wall, it does not lend itself to artistic endeavors.

If in a righteous fit of scope creep rage you take a swing at the wall - it does not dent , crack or break -  it gives to the point where your hand impacts the secret inner core of steel and then the denting, cracking and breaking that occurs is not the wall.

It also takes away the need to purchase bulletin boards or any wall art.

Now that I have proved that I am not a deep thinker (due I am sure to not being able to daydream at work) I have to run and make some last minute modifications to a program.....
